Basketball Rules Blocking Fouls
Blocking fouls are another basic rule of basketball. Basically, it is up to the referee to determing whether or not to call a blocking foul on the defensive player, a charging foul on the offensive player, or to not make any call at all. The blocking /charging call is one of the toughest calls to make for a referee. In many cases, the call could go either way and the referee has to make a split second decision.
The rules of basketball for blocking fouls is this. The offensive player is coming. The defensive player is trying to get infront of the offensive player. If the defensive player can beat the offensive player to the spot and then they collide the defensive player will draw an offensive foul called a charge. But in order to do that he has to have both feet planted on the ground and his arms straight up in the air. If he gets caught sliding infront of the player when contact is made, or if his arms are leaning into the offensive player when contact is made a BLOCKING FOUL will be called on the defensive player.
That pretty much sums up blocking fouls as part of the basic rules of basketball.
