Basketball Rules ~ Half Court Violation

The basic rules of basketball state that if the offensive team does not advance the basketball across the midcourt line within ten seconds it will result in a half court violation and will be a turnover.

This is an easy rule of basketball to enforce because not only can the referee count to ten but he can also look at the shot clock to see if ten seconds have ticked off the clock.  If they have, he can blow his whistle and call a half court violation.
